C.E.R.T.
And
Amateur Radio Communications
What's the big deal with Amateur Radio or Ham Radio as it is called sometimes. Hams have seen what it is to be needed for communications because regular means of communications fail. Hurricanes, tornados, ice storms and many other natural disasters are just a few that have interrupted regular communications. Police and Fire Departments have use Hams to fill in the gaps with their communications in the pass. Cell phones and telephone lines are even less dependable during a large scale emergency. Everyone has a cell phone but, during an disaster either towers go down or those systems get over crowded.
Amateur Radio and C.E.R.T. can go hand in hand these days to make up that gap to keep Community Emergency Response Teams in touch with the Emergency Operations Centers (EOC).
Here in Clarksville Tennessee our EOC uses Hams to help with keeping an eye on the skies using Skywarn and the National Weather Service out of Nashville.
The EOC also uses us to keep direct contact with the Local Red Cross and their shelters.
The local amateurs operators help our local Hospital and Health Dept. with emergency communications.
We would like to invite anyone who want to obtain their License to check out our website for more information.
